VINHOS VERDES REGION

GORRO - Portugal Boutique Winery's foray into the Vinhos Verdes region began, precisely, in one of the three most important valleys in the region - the Lima Valley - where the great Loureiro is produced, a grape variety better adapted to the place, its natural habitat. In terms of geographical area, it is the largest demarcated Portuguese region, and one of the largest in Europe.

The two vineyards that produce gorro Loureiro are 5km from the Atlantic ocean and each have different soils: one, planted in rocky terrain, with a large amount of pebbles, extends along the south bank of the river; the other, slightly more to the south, is located on a schist-clayey slope.

We quickly realized the need to create an Alvarinho, the most identifying variety in the region. It was in the sub-region of Monção and Melgaço that we found the perfect vineyards for the production of Gorro Alvarinho.

The grapes come from vineyards from granitic soils, which gives it the balance, harmony and minerality that so characterizes this wine. Rio Minho and Serra d’Arga allow the Atlantic influence to be minimal and the continental climate to prevail.
